Sudan: Darfur Rebels Attack Military Logistical Convoy

Khartoum — The rebel Sudan Liberation Movement led by Minni Minawi (SLM-MM) ambushed a Sudanese army logistical convoy in Darfur, the group announced on Tuesday.

The attack occurred on Nyala - El-Fasher road at 05:00 pm local time, said a statement issued by Adam Saleh Abakr, military spokesperson of the rebel group.

The convoy was transporting arms, provisions, and various supplies, he said.

The rebel official further added that the assailants killed the commander of the convoy Hamed Hamdoun and three other officers. He said they seized sixty vehicles some of it loaded with food supplies, heavy and light weapons and ammunition.

Sudanese army spokesperson was not reachable to comment on this attack.

However, different officials admitted the return of rebel groups to Darfur region after being in South Kordofan waging war against the Sudanese troops besides the Sudan People's Liberation Movement - N (SPLM-N)

Darfur hold-out rebels and the SPLM-N formed an alliance last November to topple the regime of the ruling National Congress Party In Khartoum.

The Sudanese government accuses Juba of supporting Darfur rebel groups. Khartoum said recently that South Sudan government still harbours the fighters of Justice and Equality Movement.
