For decades, family planning has had a largely female face, with women doing the pillplan or injectaplan and the like.
Now a contraceptive pill solely for men has been developed in Indonesia to increase family planning options in a bid to reduce population growth rates, which are particularly high in poor countries like Uganda. And for David Ddungu, a procurement manager in Kampala, the 'male pill' could not have been timelier. To this jovial 33-year-old, the pill is better than the condoms, not least because he is not sure about the latter's "consistently and correctly" requirement.
