Kenya: NHC Officers Grilled Over House Allocations

Two senior officials from the National Housing Corporation were yesterday grilled by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission investigators over the illegal allocation of the company's houses to senior government officers. The managing director James Ruitha and company secretary Elizabeth Mbugua were summoned to EACC headquarters at Integrity Centre early yesterday. They arrived at the commission offices shortly after 9am. Ruitha left after almost two hours but Mbugua remained behind with investigators for the better part of the day. Mbugua arrived at the commission in her official car with registration numbers KBG 125C.

Sources intimated that the officials were asked to supply the anti-graft commission with relevant documents surrounding the controversial allocation of houses to senior government officers as well to members of staff for NHC. The spokesman for the anti-graft body Nicholas Simani confirmed that they have been carrying out investigations into the allegations for the past three months and were now calling in people involved for questioning.
