Eritrea: Extensive Farmlands Tilled in Debarwa Sub-Zone

Debarwa — The Administration of Debarwa sub-zone pointed out that extensive farmlands have been tilled in the locality for cultivation in this year's rainy season.

Mr. Debesai Andemariam, head of the Agriculture Ministry's branch in the sub-zone, indicated that a total of 22,805 hectares have already been ploughed both through machinery and traditional manner, and that 752 hectares have been cultivated with potatoes, maize and sorghum. He commended the support being made by the public service technique center as regards machinery, and asserted that 1,103 quintals of fertilizer and 500 quintals of select wheat have been distributed to the local inhabitants.

Mr. Daniel Mehari, one of the farmers, expressed satisfaction with the government's support in the process of tilling their land plots, and said that they would strive to boost production in line with the preparations already made.

Mr. Debesai explained that considerable accomplishment has been made in the locality pertaining to soil and water conservation and the preparation of farmlands through mobilizing manpower to the tune of 4,000.
