ANHRI and EOHR organized yesterday, Wednesday 27th of June, the first training workshop to train journalists on the ethics of professional journalism while covering the transitional period.

The workshop was conducted by the press writer "Yassir al-Zayat" within the frame work of the Media Monitoring Project in covering the transitional period news.

The workshop lasted about 5 hours in ANHRI's headquarter. It included practical trainings for journalists on the basics and ethics of the profession that any journalist assigned to cover the elections should have as some transgressions carried out by some newspapers were monitored through the project in the first and second rounds of the presidential elections. Therefore, the first training main topic was on how to maintain the ethics of journalism and how to stay neutral in the dissemination of elections and candidates news.

12 trainees journalists attended the workshop between the ages of 20 and 30 years old. They were representatives from national, partisan and independent newspapers. The press writer Mr. al-Zayat trained them theoretically and practically on the laws governing the profession of journalism in general, and how to commit to professionalism in covering the electoral process and to publish only authentic news.

This won't be the last workshop in the Media Monitoring Project, as there will be more workshops to be organized by both ANHRI and EOHR out of the civil society role in the development of media performance of news agencies in Egypt.
