Rwanda: Revenue Authority Embarking On E-Tax Payment System

Rwanda Revenue Authority is introducing e-based systems which will let tax payers declare and later pay out taxes through online based systems by November 2012.

Taxes can now be declared online, taxpayers only need to open up accounts from RRA regional offices and their after be issued access to the institution's website.

RRA Domestic Tax Commissioner Celestin Bumbakare said "With this new system, you will be able to fill a tax return from your home or work place without having to take long hours at our offices as has been the case."

"It is important that in this new era of technological advancement we make use of available opportunities to better manage our time and concentrate more on our businesses." Added Bumbakare

On top of the online system, RRA is to rollout electronic devices that will facilitate taxpayers to declare their tax returns and there after pay taxes online.

According to RRA Commissioner General, the devices to be issued are Licensed Electronic Sales Devices that indicate amount of tax a trader is due to pay per transaction.

The device will cost between $200 and $300 each.

With use of the e based systems, handwritten invoices and cases of tax evasions will all be eliminated while creating a fast and easier mode of tax payment system as explained by Sam Toyota, RRA Director of ICT.
