Rwanda: Huye - Former Genocide Victim Workers Honoured

For the first time, Huye district has recently commemorated former workers of former Butare sector and district.

49 workers that worked in Ngoma, Mbazi, Huye, Rusatira, Maraba, Runyinya, Ruhashya, Kinyamakara and Gishamvu sectors were identified.

Those who gave speeches asked that whoever knows other names of the former workers and the positions they held can inform the district authorities.

Vénantie Nyirabahire, who survived genocide in Butare town, confessed that killing of these workers and other Tutsis in general was aided by Burundians that lived in this town.

These people under the leadership of Joseph Kanyabashi, who was the sector leader trained Interahamwe how to kill.

Huye district has started a program to collect information on genocide victims that were residents of this place and to care for the survivors.

Eugene Kayiranga Muzuka, Huye district mayor asserted that district workers will do everything possible to help the families of the deceased 49 workers.
