Dodoma — THE Minister for Works Dr John Magufuli has assured the public that all promises in 2010 Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) election manifesto on roads will be implemented.
The assurance was made on Friday before the National Assembly by the Minister following Korogwe Urban MP (CCM) demand to have road projects in the country implemented.
Dr Magufuli said that in efforts to ensure that all earmarked roads were constructed at various levels, the government had increased road funds from 300bn/- to 400bn/- as an immediate move to accommodate various roads in the country.
"We have increased road funds by 100bn/-, this will help to construct and upgrade various roads which were earlier promised. We are doing this to ensure that CCM election manifesto is implemented," Dr Magufuli said.
Earlier the Deputy Minister for Works Eng. Gerson Lwenge told the House that in 2010/2011 the government spent over 58m/- in the course of doing maintenance on Ihumwa-Hombolo--Gawaye--Mayamaya Road in Dodoma township.
He said that in 2010/2012 the government also spent over 122m/- to maintain the road and in this 2012/2013 fiscal year 269.2m/- was requested for further maintenance of the road. Deputy Minister said this when responding to Mr David Mallole (Dodoma Urban-CCM) who had wanted to know the government plans for carrying out maintenance for Ihumwa--Hombolo Road.
Mr Mallole claimed that Dodoma region was growing at a high speed, among others, fuelled by the increasing number of colleges in the region. There was therefore a need to upgrade such roads to accommodate the growing population in the areas.
