CRR — The swearing-in and flag-raising ceremony of the new chief of Niamina Dankunku, Lamin Fatty was held on Saturday June 30,2012 in Dankunku Village, Central River Region (CRR) south.
Administered by the governor of the region, Alhaji Ganyie Touray, the occasion was graced by the minister of Regional Administration of Lands and Traditional Rulers, Lamin Waa Juwara; the speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Abdoulie Bojang; the Majority leader and NAM for Serrekunda East, Fabakary Tombong Jatta; Paramount Chief Alhaji Demba Sanyang; and regional governors among others.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Juwara reminded the new chief of the big task he has been given, and urged him to live up to expectation. He implored on him to carry out his duties without fear or favour, affection or ill will. He also urged the people of Niamina to rally behind their new chief and renew their unflinching support to President Jammeh and the APRC.
Juwara also challenged the people to redouble their efforts to recapture the NAM seat they lost to the NRP, stressing that it is also the duty of the chief to do everything possible to bring back the seat to the ruling party.
He further advised the people to strengthen their unity and cooperation and respect each other for the interest of development. He then spoke at length about the love President Jammeh has for the people of Niamina and urged the communities to desist from tribalism.
Hon. Fabakary Tombong Jatta, the Majority leader and NAM for Serrekunda East described Chief Lamin Fatty as a patriotic citizen who is loyal to President Jammeh and the APRC. He urged him to remain steadfast and rule the people judiciously without ill will.
He further implored on the people in Niamina Dankunku to remain united behind President Jammeh and the APRC, and went on to recount the achievements of this present government over the years.
Hon. Jatta noted that Chief Lamin Fatty is a member of Kaira Kaffo, a group that campaigns for the advancement of the APRC. He also applauded Governor Touray for his untiring efforts in uniting the people of CRR under one umbrella.
Paramount Chief Alhaji Demba Sanyang called on the chiefs in the country to help the new chief to carry out his duties efficiently and effectively. He urged him to seek advice from other chiefs, while thanking the community for the hospitality accorded them.
The occasion was chaired by the deputy governor of the region, Alhaji Malang Saibo Camara. At the end of the ceremony, the members of Kaira Kaffo donated D10, 000 to the new chief.
