Morocco: ANHRI Condemns the Increase of Assault Against the Activists in Morocco and Call On the Authorities to Protect Them

ANHRI express its extreme indignation over the increase of the harassments of the journalists, bloggers and activists in all over Morocco. That is after the arrest of the blogger "Hasan Barhon". In addition, the threatens and assault against "Ahmed El-Merini", as well as the arranged robbery of the activist "Mohamed El-Morabt

On the middle of the last month,the security forces assaulted "Hasan Barhon" the blogger and the journalist. He was arrested during photoshooting of a security crackdown against the street vendors in downtown of "Tetouan" , as the king of Morroco will pay the country a city a visit. The authorities confiscated his private camera and then sent him to the city's police station. He was latter released, after the news of his arrest was published on broader range, a campaign was launched to support and call for his release, several human rights interfered to release him.

Barhon" one of the significant Moroccan activists in the field of freedom and rights. He is a member of "reporters without border", he is also known for his media activity on the blogges and websites. He is also known for the daring initiatives to support the victims of corruptions in "Tetouan". He was arrested several times, the most known was on 2009, as he was improisned for five months, for launching a campaign against the corrupted officials in "Tetouan".

That led them to fabricate a lawsuit to him, as result of he was imporisoned before he was released due to a royal pardon. The authorities also beat him on November, last year, during his media-coverage to a marsh organized by the 20th of February movement.

On the other hand "Ahmed El-Merini" the journalist and the broad-caster of "Bou-Zeglal" radio, who resides at "El-Sad" road in "El-Madeq", faces several harassments that turned his family life to hell. The latest harassments, when his house attacked by stones, last month. The harassments and threatens to be beaten were repeated. It reached to the level of life threats while it was witnessed by the security forces in the city who did not move to meet such threatens and assaults, although he filled a number of police records against them. That led him to consider immigration as he is afraid to be experience a greater assault against him or his family in the light of the failure of the Moroccan police to protect him.

El-Merini" considered the harassment against him as "settlements of accounts" due to his writings about the haphazard constructions. The Mediterranean club of Journalism, that it comes in response to the significant press-coverage of "El-Merini", connected to the exposer of corruption in the administration of the local affairs in El-Madeq

El-Merini" is one of the signifcant Morrocon journalists concerned of the resistance of the Spanish occupation to the Moroccan territories.

In the same context of assaults against the Moroccan activists "Mohamed El-Morabt" to an an arranged robbery in front of his house, at the end of the last month. During the day light, two persons came close to him, while he was opening the door house, then stole his wallet which had an important documents linked to his media-work and flee.

El-Morabt known for his dare in writing and address the different fileds of corruption, he filled a police record, saying that he is doubting that this is an arranged accident to delay him from doing performing his job and to be punished for his dare of exposing the corruption files.

ANHRI condemns such assaults which is against democracy and violets the promises of the promises of the authorities to protect the freedom of expression and opinion as well as the working freedom of the journalists.

ANHRI condemns the targeting the journalists, activists and bloggers as well as repeated assault against them and the flauire of the police to protect them. ANHRI is expressing its fear that it could be turned to a stable method when it comes in dealing with the activists in the coming period

ANHRI call the Moroccan authorities to put an end to the increasing intimidation series, that is happened to every journalist and activists recently. ANHRI says that the Moroccan authorities are fully responsible for their protection as they are citizens who have the right of police protection concerning their property as well as their personal security..
