THREE people in possession of four elephant tusks were on Saturday evening arrested at Technology farm in Baruti division. The three were nabbed by officers from the Kenya Wildlife Services and the Nakuru Central police station while waiting for buyers of the tusks. This was after the Mogon sub location chief Josiah Rono tipped off the police.

Rono said the selling of elephant tusks has been going on in the area for quite a while. "The workers at the farm have been spotting two cars coming to the bushes especially on weekends. "The first car suspected to be carrying the tusks comes to the bush in the afternoon hours. It is then followed by another car believed to be carrying the buyers. Then the individuals, whom the workers claim are armed, exchange the goods in a suspicious manner," Rono, who has been receiving information from the workers, said.

He said his attempts to catch up with the suspects have been unsuccessful since they never show up on the days he lays his trap. However, on Saturday at about 2.30pm he received information from the farm workers that one car had just arrived. "They were very specific that I should not go alone because the suspects were armed. I informed police officers from Central police station. As the police officers made their way to the scene, I drove behind them," Rono said.

On the way to the scene they met an officer from KWS and a driver returning to town. "We returned to the scene with them where we found two other KWS officers with the three suscepts. At the scene we found the suspects' Premio car with one big tusk and three small ones in the car," Rono said. He said the suspects were arrested and taken to Nakuru Central police station.
