Africa: WAC Stuns Ivorian Debutants AFAD in Abidjan

Former Africa champions Wydad Athletic Club of Morocco gave Ivorian debutants AF Amadou Diallo so much to worry about with a lone goal victory in their second 1/8th finals of the Orange CAF Confederation Cup on Saturday in Abidjan.

The 17-time Moroccan league champions proved too much for their hosts humbling them in front of their teeming fans at the Stade Robert Champroux.

Midfielder Yassin Lakhal's 34th minute strike separated the two sides and put his side's nose in front ahead of the second leg two weeks later in Casablanca.

AF Amadou Diallo, making their debut in the continental club championship, fought on but the equalizer remained elusive.

The Abidjan-based are the only Ivorian survivors in this year's continental club championship following the elimination of ASEC Mimosas and Africa Sports from the Orange CA Confederations Cup and the Orange CAF Champions League respectively.
