Namibia: Suspended Suspension for Lawyer Murorua

WINDHOEK-BASED lawyer Lucius Murorua has survived an attempt to have his name struck from the roll of legal practitioners for having misled a High Court judge and another lawyer in a divorce case almost ten years ago.

In a split decision, a full bench of the High Court ordered on Friday last week that Murorua is suspended from practising as a legal practitioner in Namibia for 12 months. In effect, though, the court's order is little more than a slap on the wrist, with the court directing that this punishment would be suspended in whole for a period of three years, on condition that Murorua is not found guilty of unprofessional or dishonourable or unworthy conduct in terms of the Legal Practitioners Act during the period of suspension.
