Tunisia: Poct S.-G. Hammami - 'NCA, Supreme Authority for Discussing Strategic Options'

Carthage — The National Constituent Assembly (NCA) should be considered as the supreme authority for discussing the great orientations and strategic choices of the national policies, both internal and external, said Tunisian Communist Labour Party (POCT) Secretary-General Hamma Hammami.

After his talk, on Monday, with President Moncef Marzouki, Mr. Hammami stressed the need to work out a specific agenda for the present transition stage.

Briefing media, POCT Secretary-General pointed out that "intensifying work with the parties, civil society, trade unions and human rights organisations" and "informing the large public of the country's present situation, far from any nonsensical justifications," are the real solutions that help Tunisia overcome the present political crisis.

Mr. Hammami said that extradition of former Libyan Premier Baghdadi al-Mahmoudi was "a partisan operation serving the interests of one Libyan side on the eve of elections there."

POCT Secretary-General said that "Tunisia, at present, needs a programme that will achieve the Revolution objectives and meet the Tunisian people's economic and social aspirations," calling on all democratic forces (parties, associations, independents) "to face up to that trend bent on establishing a new form of dictatorship in Tunisia."
