Luanda — The secretary-general of the Angolan Christian Churches Council (Cica), Luis Nguimbi, said last Monday in Luanda that his institution has been collaborating in the electoral civic education of the citizens, in view of the general elections scheduled for August 31.
Speaking to Angop, in regard to the work of the church in face of the elections, Luis Nguimbi stressed that Cica has set up a team tasked with supporting actions relating to the electoral process.
He called on the leaders of the various religious denominations to mobilise their faithful, as well as the citizens in their communities, to participate in the elections.
"Some people have put in their minds that the electoral registration is compulsory but the vote is free choice, which can cause many people to be absent from this crucial stage. Reason why there is a need for mobilisation", he explained.
Thus, Cica will hold a national service, on August 26, aimed at passing the message on the importance of participating in the elections, with civility and acceptance of the results.
He concluded by saying that this work is intended to make the 2012 electoral process a feast and proof of the Angolan people's maturity and determination to consolidate democracy in the country.
