Kenya: Team Kenya Kin to Enjoy Free DStv

Nairobi — Households of Team Kenya to the London Olympics have the chance to witness their kin go for Olympics glory after pay satellite television providers Multichoice Kenya offered them free DStv installation.

Families of London 2012 competitors will follow the games live in a gesture aimed at inspiring their kin to perform to their best with the knowledge those at home are watching them take on the world.

Speaking during the announcement on Tuesday, the Company's East Africa Regional Director Stephen Isaboke said that the package comes with a free premium subscription during the Olympic month at an estimated cost of Sh2.5m.

"We are sure the team will fly the Kenyan flag high and we wanted their kin to catch the action live on our channels that will exclusively air the Olympics," explained Isaboke.

Four athletes headed for the World Junior Championships in Barcelona were present at the event that was graced by Sports Assistant Minister Kabando wa Kabando and Sports Commissioner Gordon Oluoch.

The athletes who included Faith Chepng'etich (1500m), Timothy Kitum (800m), Boniface Mweresa and Alphas Kishoyian (400m) were elated at the package with the first pair set to compete at London 2012.

"It will be a good thing to compete knowing that your family is watching you back home, we will do our best," said Kitum who qualified for Olympics by finishing second to world record holder, David Rudisha.

"Our sportsmen and women have been doing this country great service through marketing abroad, its time those who desire to govern the country involve them.

"I urge all of them to stand tall and declare what they intend to do for sports development in the country," Kabando said in his remarks.

The first contingent of the team is expected to depart on Tuesday evening for a training camp in Bristol while the rest will continue with their build-up in Kasarani.

Kenya will be represented by 55 participants who will be on a mission to improve the Beijing Olympics tally of 6 gold, 4 silver and 4 bronze that was all acquired from the athletics team.
