Nigeria: Fashola - Celebrating Birthday With Downtrodden

People who are of the view that the life of political office holders in Nigeria is about class distinction, glamour and partying at any given occasion. But for the Lagos State governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, it is very difficult to explain.

Since he assumed office, his birthday celebration has always been with the downtrodden. Unlike like the big names in the nation's socio-political landscape that would roll out the drums to celebrate their birthday and occupy the pages of the newspapers, the Senior Advocate of Nigeria born on June 28, 1963 would rather admonish his teeming admirers and loyalists to channel such resources to the service of humanity by donating such funds to charity.
