Tunisia: Egyptian Trawler Intercepted Off Zarzis Coast

Medenine — The Tunisian coast guards intercepted, on Monday, an Egyptian fishing trawler who trespassed on the Tunisian territorial waters, thirty miles off the Zarzis coast, a security source said.

The same source told TAP news agency correspondent in the region that the Tunisian coast guard units signaled to the trawler to stop as soon as they intercepted her, but her captain refused to comply, compelling the units to fire warning shots and obliging the boat to stop.

The Egyptian trawler was then hauled, with her 14-member crew, to the port of Zarzis, where a report was drawn up and sent to the Zarzis fishing authority to complete the required legal procedures.
