The First Lady and Karamoja Affairs Minister Janet Museveni has praised the Solar Light for Africa Youth Mission for the charitable services it has rendered to the Uganda since the year 2000.

The American Organisation, founded by Retired Bishop Alden Hathaway, has for 13 years been engaging youth from America and Uganda for two weeks every summer holiday in programmes to spread solar power in schools, health centres, churches and orphanages.

This year's Youth Mission team which has been working in Karamoja for the last two weeks comprises of 12 Americans and 8 Ugandans led by Retired Bishop Alden Hathaway and his wife Barbara.

The team installed solar energy in the 20 houses at Lorengedwat Hydra form Village in Nakapiripirit District. Solar power was also installed in Joseph's home in Ziba village Nkokonjeru Buikwe District which accommodates 16 orphaned children and a solar system for the Medical Centre under construction at Ziba which are supported by the Olive Branch Ministries based in the USA.

While hosting the team at State House Nakasero, the First Lady said it is always humbling to see young and old people travelling all the way from America to help those in need and contribute to improving people's welfare, especially in these difficult times.

She thanked God for sustaining the exercise all this long and for enabling all those people in America who donate to enrich the lives of the communities supported by Solar Light for Africa.

Janet Museveni thanked Bishop Alden Hathaway and his team for this gesture started in Uganda 13 years ago and urged fellow Ugandans to learn from this selflessness and compassion.

She suggested that the team's next visits to her home would be used for praise and worship in thanksgiving to God who builds bridges among nations because that is what Solar Light for Africa has helped to do between the young people from the US and Uganda.
