Egypt: Conference On Nile Basin Countries Coop. to Open Today

The meeting of the council of ministers of Nile Basin countries is to open today in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda.

Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Hesham Qandil said the meeting will discuss three options on the future of the Nile Basin initiative and activities in this regard.

He added the executive office for the initiative would give in the meeting the views of international experts on the future of the initiative in order to know how the donors of international establishments could turn in the funds required for the completion of projects of the sub-basins.

The holding of the meeting is good news for all Nile Basin countries as ministers will review views on the future of continuing with the initiative projects at the sub-basins level and the main basin as well. The meeting will also discuss how ready are the donors under the World Bank to continue funding the activities of the initiative, as this financial support is to terminate by the end of this year.
