Zambia: Headman Arrested for Defiling Girl (15)

A HEADMAN in Chibombo District in Central Province has been arrested for allegedly defiling a 15-year-old girl.

Headman Tumbana, 38, of Tumbana Village in Chief Chamuka's area in Chibombo, is alleged to have defiled the girl of the same village.

Central Province Commissioner of Police, Solomon Jere said the headman had unlawful carnal knowledge with the girl last month and that he would appear in court on Monday.

He was arrested yesterday and is in custody at Chisamba Police Station.

Meanwhile, police in Kapiri-Mposhi are investigating the death of Masauso Nkhoma who was found dead in police cells last weekend.

Dr Jere said Nkhoma was earlier this year charged for murder after he allegedly crushed his five-year-old child to death and burnt down two houses.

He was discharged from hospital two days before he was found dead in his cell.
