GERMANY'S national women's student soccer team arrived in Namibia on Tuesday for a short tour that will see them playing two matches against the Brave Gladiators.

Their first match takes place at Independence Stadium this afternoon and Jacky Gertze of the Namibia Football Association's Women's Desk expects a tough match.

"The structures in German football are very advanced and you will never find a weak German team. I watched them training and they are tactically very strong," she said.

The tour was facilitated by the NFA's technical director Klaus Stark through his connections with the German Football Association.

The German team will provide a tough test for Namibia with most of the players playing in the German first and second divisions, according to their coach Andrea Wolfrum.

"Most of the women play in the first and second leagues in Germany. Many of them came through the ranks of the Under-18 and Under-20 national sides and now they play for the national students' team," she said.

Wolfrum said she did not know much about Namibian football but expected a tough match.

"The tour will provide us with a good test. Secondly we have not played together for a long time and there are always changes in the team, with new students coming in, so we want to work on our combinations and see how they play against a national team. I don't know how the Namibians play or how strong they are. We hope to win the match but it will not be easy," she said.

The match was originally supposed to take place at the SKW Stadium but it had to be shifted at the last minute due to another function being hosted there. According to Gertze the match will now take place at the NFA Technical Centre next to the NFA Soccer House in Katutura, starting at 15h30 this afternoon.

Gertze said the Brave Gladiators will include five Under-17 players who recently returned from a German tour where they won two and lost two matches. They are Emma Naris, Lovisa Mulunga, Lena Noreses, Anouschka Kordom and Vita Kamehena.

The rest of the squad will include senior players like Kleintjie Fredericks, Stacy Naris, Queen Manga, Lydia Eixas, Maggie Paulus and Estie Amukwaya.

The second match will take place at the Swakopmund Sport Field on Sunday, July 8.

According to Gertze the tour will also provide Namibia much needed practise ahead of the upcoming Cucsa Games which will be hosted in Windhoek later this month.

"A lot of players from Unam Bokkies and Poly Babes will be included in the Cucsa team so it will be a good test for them. We will also field several more Under-17 players in the second match to give them some practise ahead of the Zone 6 Youth Games which take place in Zambia in December," she said.
