West Africa: Togo Alert - Journalist Violently Attacked, Camera Seized

Ayi Atayi, a reporter with Forum de la Semaine, a privately-owned newspaper was on July 2, 2012 violently attacked while covering a dispute between two factions in Lome, the capital of Togo.

According to the Media Foundation for West Africa's (MFWA) correspondent, the attack on the reporter left bruises all over his body including his face.

The dispute was between owners of Eda-Oba Hotel in Lome and members of a family who claim ownership of the land on which the hotel is situated.

Atayi who confirmed the attack to the MFWA correspondent, said his assailants also seized his camera.
