Kenya: Busy Weekend for Top Presidential Aspirants

Presidential hopefuls will this weekend tour various parts of the country as they seek to popularise their parties and plead for support. The weekend will see heightened activities with Prime Minister Raila Odinga hosting a dinner tonight to raise funds for his campaign secretariat before heading to Nakuru county.

Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka will attend a church function in South B in Nairobi tomorrow before hosting Ukambani leaders at his Karen home on Sunday. On Monday to Wednesday, the VP will embark on a meet-the-people tour across all the Ukambani counties and address rallies. Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi will be in Nandi county this morning before heading to Kakamega in the afternoon to attend a funeral.

Tomorrow, Mudavadi will return to Nandi where he is slated to address a UDF rally at the Kapsabet Stadium. Eldoret North MP Willaim Ruto is expected to return to Lamu while Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua will be in Kakamega tomorrow. Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth will be in Embakasi's Umoja area to meet opinion leaders before flying to Coast for similar engagements in Mombasa and Kwale tomorrow and Sunday respectively.

Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta who was in Marimanti, Tharaka Nithi county yesterday will perhaps be having one of the busiest schedules with tours across five counties. Today, he will be in Chogoria and Chuka in Tharaka Nithi county in the morning before attending the funeral of former head of civil service Geoffrey Kareithi in Gichugu, Kirinyaga county.

Tomorrow, Uhuru will be in Embu county before heading to Kisii and Nyamira counties on Sunday and Monday respectively. Tonight, Raila and top ODM brass will congregate at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Nairobi for the Sh100,000-plate-dinner. ODM chairman Henry Kosgey said those wishing to attend will buy card from Raila's PA Caesar Asiyo and the Raila Odinga presidential secretariat.

Raila's spokesmen Dennis Onyango said the PM will not attend the Saba Saba city rally and will instead join the ODM reloaded caravan in Nakuru and Baringo counties. "Prime Minister Raila Odinga will on Saturday, July 7 lead ODM and party supporters to a rally at Nakuru's Afraha Stadium for a commemoration of the 22nd anniversary of the Saba Saba," Onyango said..

The Saturday rally will be preceded by roadshow by members of the ODM Reloaded team beginning today in parts of Nakuru and Baringo. The Reloaded Team will tour Olenguruone, Molo, Elburgon, Njoro and Mauche town tomorrow. On Saturday, the team will tour Salgaa town, Ngata Bridge and Nakuru town estates before moving to Afraha stadium for a rally to be addressed by the PM. On Sunday, the PM will attend a church service in Kabarak, then join the Reloaded Team in Kampi ya Moto, Muserech, Esageri, Kabimoi and wind up with a rally in Ravine town.
