ACTING President Joice Mujuru yesterday said no individual has the right to impose candidates in Zanu-PF structures as such powers rest with the people.

Addressing party supporters at a field day in Chegutu East constituency, Cde Mujuru said Zanu-PF is built from the grassroots and not the other way round.

She said President Mugabe, who is the Zanu-PF First Secretary and President, was shocked at the manner district co-ordinating committee elections were conducted.

"VaMugabe vanoshamisika kuti kwavakuumbwa district reparty pasina mabranch nama cell . . . handizvo zvatinotarisira mumusangano izvozvo," she said, to wild applause from Zanu-PF supporters.

She added: "Musangano unotarisira kuti kana tauruka tiri pacell hazvisi zvokuti uyu ndinomuda, uyu handimude. Ndiwe ani anoti nhingi ndinomuda, nhingi handimude? Kana tirimumusangano gwara remusangano ndiro rinotibatanidza."

The Zanu-PF Second Secretary said time had come for party officials to stop the imposition of candidates as such behaviour destroys the party.

She also took a swipe at some party officials who do not tell President Mugabe the truth on some developments in the party.

Cde Mujuru's remarks come in the wake of the disbanding of DCCs which were dissolved last week following a meeting of the Politburo and the Central Committee in Harare.

Zanu-PF is in the process of rejuvenating its structures with the province expected to play a pivotal role in co-ordinating party activities.

In his remarks at the same event, Zanu-PF national political commissar Cde Webster Shamu hailed Acting President Mujuru as a disciplined Zanu-PF cadre with a history entrenched in the liberation struggle.

"Totarisana muZanu-PF nemuChimu-renga medu ndivo dangwe raVaMugabe . . . Tinodzidza kwavari kuti unozvibata sei," Cde Shamu said.

He narrated how Cde Mujuru participated in the war of liberation and outlined the roles she has played after independence.

Cde Shamu said Cde Mujuru has remained principled and resolute in defence of the gains of the liberation struggle.
