Harambee Stars captain Oliech set for move to Turkey club.
Harambee Stars captain Dennis Oliech says he is looking forward to a "new experience and challenge" playing in the premier Turkish league. On Monday evening, the Kenyan international striker's parent club AJ Auxerre, announced on their website they had reached a formal agreement with Turkish side Kasimpasa Spor regarding the transfer of services for the player. "It's (the move to Turkey) another challenge altogether and am relishing it, I will give my best and make my country proud," said the 27 year-old.
The former Mathare United player, who also featured in the Qatari League with top flight side Al Arabi during the early stages of his career, has been based in France for the last five years, initially at Nantes Atlantique before switching to the Burgundy outfit where he experienced Euro Champions League action in 2010. He managed a combined total of 183 appearances for both French teams, scoring 25 times. Last season Oliech was the top scorer at Auxerre with 10 goals but they were not enough to spare the club from relegation.
Oliech, who came out of a self imposed retirement to feature for the national team during the World Cup and African Cup of Nations qualifiers last month, is expected to complete the move to Turkey after completing the mandatory medical test and agreeing to personal terms when his holiday period elapses in a week's time. Kasimpasa Spor have just gained promotion to the top flight league in Turkey after winning the play-offs in the second tier league.
Elsewhere Nigerian club side Sunshine got their Orange African Football Confederation Champions League off to a poor start with a home defeat to defending champions Esperance of Tunisia. The visitors won 2-0 and showed intent right from the first whistle as they immediately attacked Sunshine. The first goal of the game came in the 17th minute after Harrison Afful, Esperance's Ghanaian defender went on a counter attack, dribbled past two defenders before making a beautiful pass to Msakni Youssef who expertly scored the opening goal.
Sunshine almost cancelled the goal immediately when Ojo Dayo hit the cross bar in the 18th minute. He also came close in the 22nd minute but his header went high above the goal post. The visitors controlled the game effectively and got their second goal in the 44th minute through Ndjeng Joseph Yannick who benefited again from some enterprising play by Afful . The Cameroonian striker shot from outside the box. The home team came more into the game in the second half and were more threatening as they searched for a comeback.
