Uganda: Katakwi Pupils Clean Home of 75-Year-Old

WASH club members of Katakwi Township Primary School in Katakwi district recently surprised Gerald Amodoi of Dokomer cell, a 75-year-old man with disability, by cleaning his home.

They washed his utensils, dug for him a rubbish pit, swept his compound and fetched for him water from a nearby borehole.

"I have never seen pupils come to help old men in their homes. You are a blessing and I pray that God makes you pass your examinations," Amodoi said.

The hygiene initiative is part of the school's WASH club community outreach. The WASH club pledged to continue with the campaign of promoting good hygiene and sanitation in Katakwi district.

The head teacher, Grace Okiror, commended the WASH club for taking the lead on hygiene and sanitation activities in the school.

"Teachers no longer have to worry about mobilising pupils to clean the school. That is now the responsibility of the WASH club members," she said.
