Rwanda: Kigeme Refugee Camp Security Ensured - District Admin

As of presently, there are about 7,700 refugees in Kigeme refugee camp and though this number keeps increasing, they are secure as it was announced during the security meeting on the district level on the 9th.July.2012.

Philbert Mugisha the district mayor said that the district has a plan of strengthening the security of the refugees in Kigeme refugee camp with the support of the refugee camp administration and the Ministry of Disaster Management and Refugee Affairs (MIDIMAR).

Philbert Mugisha also said that the trees that are in this camp are going to be cut so as to ensure that no tree falls on people there. Refugees are coming in this camp from Nkamira refugee camp where they stay temporarily.

According to the statistics from MIDIMAR, by the end of the last week in Rwanda there were already about 17, 000 refugees from the insecurities in the eastern part of Democratic Republic of Congo.
