Eritrea: Fair Amount and Distribution of Rainfall Being Witnessed - Report

Asmara — The meteorology unit in the Ministry of Transport and Communications indicated that fair amount and distribution of rainfall has been witnessed countrywide, with more leaning in the Central, Southern and Gash-Barka regions.

Pointing out that rainfall showers started on June 21 and 22, Mr. Isaac Fiseha from the Ministry explained that the trend demonstrates considerable increase in rainfall as opposed to that of last year, especially in the Central region.

He further called on farmers to pursue effective techniques of rain-fed farming and reinforce terracing and afforestation activities.

Reports indicate that a total of 256, 227 and 203 mm. rainfall has been gauged in Goluj, Omhajer and Awgaro semi-urban centers respectively, while 161 mm. has been registered in Tesenei.

Satellite pictures indicate that still promising amount of rainfall would shower, Mr. Isaac explained.
