Angola: Elevation of Dungo Archaeological Station to Cultural Heritage Defended

Baía Farta — The French archaeologist Manuel Guitierrez urged this Thursday in district of Baía Farta, central Benguela province for the need of Angolan entities to elevate Dungo Archaeological Station to the category of cultural heritage.

According to Manuel Gutierrez, Dungo Archaelogical Station has a concentration of the oldest lythic pieces of Africa, with over two million years.

The archaeologist stressed that the laboratory researches indicate that the lythic pieces of Dungo-5, discovered in 1993, comprising the "shopper" and "bifaces," outweigh the Olduvai of (Kenya) and Melka Kouture (Ethiopia), dated 1.7 million years.

The French archaeologist said that in Dungo, bones of whales were also found near lythic pieces, which indicates that ancestors used the mammals for food, something unheard in Africa and world.
