Egypt: Al-Azhar Warns Against Hosting Self-Proclaimed Spokesmen

Al-Azhar said Thursday 12/07/2012 it has nothing to do with persons claiming to be representing Al-Azhar and giving media statements on behalf of the religious institution without any authority to do so.

The official spokesman of Al-Azhar is the only person entitled to make media appearances and give statements, Head of Al-Azhar's Media Department Sheikh Mohamed Gemeaha said in a statement on Thursday.

Gemeaha warned against hosting self-proclaimed spokesmen, even if they wore Al-Azhar's traditional robe and turban.

He also appealed on media outlets to be accurate, reiterating that the official information is only released by Al-Azhar's Mashyakha.
