US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton held discussions with Field Marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawi, head of Egypt's military council, on Sunday.
The meeting, attended by members of the military council and US representatives, including Anne Patterson, US ambassador in Cairo, addressed the latest developments on the local and international levels and ways to promote Egypt-US relations.
Clinton expressed Washington's wishes to promote cooperation between the two countries, considering Egypt a strategic alley in the region, reported the Middle East News Agency.
Clinton arrived to Cairo last night in the first visit of a senior American official to Egypt since Mohamed Mursi was named president at the end of June.
Mursi and Egyptian foreign minister Mohamed Kamel Amr met with Clinton yesterday.
