Holders MAS Fes have crashed out of the 2012 Orange CAF Confederation Cup whilst Sudanese giants Al Hilal joined archrivals Al Merrikh at the mini-league stage.
MAS Fes suffered a shocking 0-2 loss to Congolese side AC Leopards in Brazzaville on Saturday allowing the latter to progress into the last eight on a 2-1 aggregate whilst Hilal completed a double over Malian side Cercle de Bamako with a lone goal victory in Bamako and advance 2-0 on aggregate.
The encounter in the Congolese capital, decided after extra time, is one that the Orange CAF Confederation Cup holders would be wishing to forget anytime soon as they ended the game with seven men following red cards to four players - Rachid Dahmani, Omar Ennamasoui, Said Hamouni and Younes Lyousfi.
Five minutes before recess, the Congolese scored the opener that neutralized MAS Fes' lone goal victory in the first leg in Fes two weeks ago, before wrapping up victory in the 110th minute courtesy a penalty.
The exit of MAS Fes maintains the unblemished record of no club successfully defending the title with the exception of Tunisia's CS Saxien in 2007 and 2008.
Elsewhere in Bamako, Hilal zoomed into the last eight thanks to Mudathir Eltaib's 28th minute strike.
