Kenya: Adopt E-Learning, State Urged

THE government has been urged to adopt open education, distance learning and e-learning concepts because of the rapid progress in Information Communication Technology. However, this calls for heavy investment in ICT infrastructure, access to broadband, policy and strategy formulation to integrate ICT in all learning activities. "We therefore look upon development partners to provide more support in this endeavor," said Harry Kaane, the Secretary for Higher Education, Science and Technology. He was speaking at the official opening of the African Virtual University Policy and Curriculum Conceptualisation workshop.

Kaane said bilateral and multilateral partners have a role to play in development of ICT. He said e-learning, in particular, will realise its potential if Africa embraces Open Education Resources. "I urge African governments to formulate policies and strategies that promote the production of the content as OERs," Kaane said.
