Kenya: GOR Mahia Beat Chemelil to Pick All Points at Afraha

GOR Mahia edged out Chemilil 1-0 during a Kenya Premier League match KPL at Afraha Stadium, Nakuru yesterday. The two teams had started the match with maximum caution but Chemelil tried hard to lock out the smooth combination of Danni Sserunkuma and Rama Salim who lacked fluid first half. In the second half, Gor Mahia engaged a different strategy, this time getting Chemelil on quick counter attacks.

The all-important goal was scored by Ivan Anguyo after he took advantage of the opponent's defensive lapse. He latched onto Anthony Akumu's through ball to beat the keeper in the 58th minute. Chemelil enjoyed the better of the final minutes of the match, making several attempts at Jerim Onyango's goal including a rattle of the bar but Gor Mahia poured back to protect their single goal lead to the end.

The match had to be temporarily stopped by match official Damaris Kimani who ordered all the fans who were perched dangerously on top of the masts at the stadium come down as a security measure. The win was a worth double by Gor Mahia having beaten the same team with a similar margin in the first leg match at the City Stadium.

In another match, KCB thrashed Muhoroni Youth 3-0 at the City Stadium. Benjamin Chaka opened the scoring for the bankers in the 5th minute for a 1-0 lead. Brian Osumba doubled the advantage in the 37th following a goalmouth melee and a 2-0 lead at the interval. On resumption, Michael Oyando sealed the scores in the 58th minute. Elsewhere, Karuturi beat Sony 1-0 while Thika United drew 1-1 with Oserian
