Nigeria: Nasarawa Police Arrest 34 Robbery Suspects

The Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa, Mr Abayomi Akeremale, on Monday said the command has arrested 34 armed robbery suspects in the last two weeks.

Akeremale said at a news briefing in Lafia that the command had recovered 31 fire arms, including 19 live ammunition from the suspects, one of whom was charged to court.

He added that the police also recovered two locally-made pistols, three masks, one military uniform, one torchlight, four jackets, five cell phones and charms in a forest on Kwato-Kana road with the assistance of two residents.

The commissioner said the police had seized 10 vehicles, one motorcycle and five cell phones believed to have been stolen from their victims.

He gave the names of some of the suspects as Onyekachi Ukelere of Aunty Alice field area Mararaba; Saidu Musa of Angwan Katsinawa in Mararaba; Suleiman Abubakar and one Bello Musa, a Nigerien.

He said Abubakar and Musa were suspected to belong to a criminal syndicate that terrorised people on Kana-Apawu- Unda road.

Akeremale urged members of the public to regard security as a collective responsibility by offering useful information about criminal activities in their neighbourhood.

"Our enemies live amongst us, they could be our next door neighbours," he added.
