Liberia: Govt, Libya Foreign Ministers Compare Notes

The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Liberia and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Libya met on July 16, 2012 on the margin of the 19th Ordinary Summit of the African Union in Addis, Ababa, Ethiopia.

The two Ministers reviewed the situation and developments in Libya since Liberia took the decision to rupture relations with the Kaddafi Regime in April 2011. The Foreign Minister of Liberia commended the people of Libya for the successful holding of the July 7, 2012 Elections for the General National Congress and the progress achieved so far towards the establishment of full democratic order.

Accordingly, both Ministers agreed that the reasons leading to the decision by Liberia for the rupture of relations no longer obtain and agreed that relations between the two countries should be normalized in the shortest possible time. In this connection, it was agreed that a Libyan Delegation will visit Monrovia within the upcoming weeks for discussions leading to the restoration of diplomatic relations.
