South Africa: Transnet's Drive to Train Artisans Once Again

According to a Fin24 report, Transnet plans to once again become a major supplier of artisan training in South Africa - as it was in it's former incarnation as South African Railways - and intends spending more than a billion rand a year on skills training.

Transnet says that it expects to create 558 000 jobs as a result of the cash it will inject into the economy through various projects aimed at improving its rail, port and pipeline infrastructure. It also intends having at least 2 000 apprentices in training every year for the next seven years. Last year the parastatal trained just 500 apprentices, according to the Fin24 report.
