Dutse — The Jigawa State government will not hesitate to punish anyone found guilty of sabotaging the effort of the state government to eradicate polio from the state, the Commissioner for Health Dr. Tafida Abubakar has said.
The commissioner gave the warning yesterday while addressing the volunteer community mobilizers for the campaign against polio in Dutse.
Abubakar, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Alhaji Inuwa Tahir, said government has resolved to eliminate polio from the state, and would not condone any attempt to truncate the effort.
"The rounds of the polio vaccines would continue until no evidence of the disease can be traced to the state. Volunteers need to understand the intricate nature of their duties," he said.
Representative of the traditional institution at the occasion and Chiroman Hadejia, Alhaji Muhammadu, said some of the problems experienced are due to non involvement of traditional rulers in the exercise.
Daily Trust gathered that the Volunteer Community Networks was initiated to prevent fresh polio cases in the country.
