Nigeria: Ramadan - Look Out for New Moon Today - Sultan Tells Muslims

Sokoto — Sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Muhammad Abubakar yesterday enjoined Muslims all over the country to start looking for the new moon of Ramadan today.

This was contained in a statement by Chairman Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs Sokoto Sultanate Council Professor Sambo Wali Junaidu.

According to the statement, "Thursday 19th July 2012 which is equivalent to the 29th day of Shaban 1433 AH is the day to look for the new moon of Ramadan".

It urged the Muslim community to watch out for the new moon today and report its sighting to the nearest district or village head for onwards communication to the Sultan.

The statement gave some GSM numbers which can be used to report the sighting of the new moon of Ramadan to the Sultan of Sokoto. The numbers include 08037150100, 08033413534, 0805073872, 08035560022, 08039143886 and 08039655997.
