Tunisia: 'Real Reasons Behind My Dismissal Are Political,' Says Mustapha Kamel Nabli

Tunis — Tunisia's Central Bank (TCB) Governor Mustapha Kamel Nabli said the real reasons behind his dismissal are "political and completely inconsistent with the independence of the Central Bank as decided by the National Constituent Assembly."

At a NCA plenary session held on Wednesday evening, Mr. Nabli went on saying that the decision to sack him is meant to impose government control on the financial and banking sector.

The justifications and reasons given to fire him as explained on Tuesday evening by Minister in Charge of Economic Issues Ridha Saïdi were described by the TCB Governor as "wrong and far from reality," stressing they were provided after the dismissal decision was made.

"If part of these reasons was true, I would have resigned a long time ago," he declared.
