Kenya: Rudisha Named Safeguard Ambassador

World champion and record holder, David Rudisha has been named a brand ambassador for Procter & Gamble product Safeguard antibacterial soap.

The deal with the two-lap phenomenon will see the two-time African and Continental crown-holder work on an initiative dubbed 'Protecting your Playground Champion' in his second local endorsement agreement after he starred in a Kiwi Shoe Polish advert.

"I am very pleased to partner with Safeguard antibacterial soap as it is supporting a cause that is close to my heart. Outdoor play is important in nurturing talent in children who must also ensure that they maintain a high level of hygiene," Rudisha who set the men 800m world record of 1:41.01 in Rieti two years ago stated in his unveiling.

Rudisha, who will be captaining the Kenyan Team to the London 2012 Olympic Games, will also support the product's efforts to promote hand washing with soap especially among children before and after play.

"In my village, I have noticed that when playing, children put their hands in the mouth and even after playing they rush to eat without washing their hands. It is for this reason that I urge Kenyans, especially our children, to ensure that they wash their hands before and after play," the gold medal favourite in London added.

"We are thrilled to have the support of such a young, talented athlete who continues to inspire his peers to achieve their personal best," the brand's manager, Victoria Kieti said.

As part of the deal, Rudisha will travel to various schools to promote the endorsement campaign.
