Nigeria: Sultan Directs Muslims to Begin Ramadan Fasting Today

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa'ad Abubakar III, yesterday directed the Muslim Ummah nationwide to begin Ramadan fast today, following the sighting of the moon equivalent to Islamic Calendar Friday 1st Ramadan 1433AH.

The Sultan stated this while briefing journalists at his palace yesterday after the advisory committee had verified the sighting of moon in accordance with rules and all the necessary facts regarding the sighting of the moon in different states of the federation.

As at press time, eight states including Sokoto, Kebbi, Gombe, Kaduna, Borno, Kastina, Zamfara have sighted the moon.

The royal father also pleaded with Nigerians to remain peaceful and urged Muslims to devote themselves to prayers and susteinance of peace in the country.
