The head of the Observer Sports Desk will be part of the Gambian contingent that will travel to next week's Summer Olympics Games in the British capital, London. Baboucarr Camara and the first batch of the Gambian contingent of mainly athletes will leave Banjul on Saturday.
Speaking to this reporter, Camara said he is going to London to cover the 30th edition of the Quadrennial Games from the 27th July - 12th August, 2012. He disclosed that he was selected by the Gambia National Olympic Committee to cover the event. "I wouldn't say I am the best journalist but the power behind this is the Daily Observer which is the biggest newspaper in the country. I am lucky to be selected as it is a big achievement to cover the Olympic Games," he stated.
He thanked the management of the Daily Observer especially the managing director, Pa Malick Faye; Alhagie Jobe, the deputy editor-in-chief and the entire editorial staff for their support. He also thanked his family for being very supportive. Camara started his journalism career as a freelance reporter with TODAY Newspaper in March 2008. Hewas first appointed as a sports reporter by West Coast Radio in 2008during the Summer Olympics in Beijing.
