Somalia: UNICEF- One in Five Children Is Malnourished in Somalia

New York — In Somalia, The United Nations Children's Fund -UNICEF estimates that situation because of the ongoing conflict as particularly dramatic: "One in five children is acutely malnourished there." The food crisis has forced hundreds of thousands of families to leave their homes.

More than a million people are at home on the run - including 60 percent of children. Of the famine in East Africa were initially around 13 million people affected.

For necessary assistance in the Horn of Africa UNICEF calculated one to the end of 2012 around 222 million €. Of these, only a third had been received. According to the organization so far 18 million euros have been donated by Germans.
