Tanzania: Taswa Join Nation to Mourn Mv Skagit Dead

THE Tanzania Sports Writers Association (TASWA) has sent condolence message to the government of Zanzibar, following the death of at least 60 people on a sunken Mv Skagit on Wednesday at the Chumbe Island in Zanzibar.

TASWA Secretary General Amir Mhando, said that they have received with grief the news about the sunken vessels and prayed for quick recovery of the victims.

"We join the nation to mourn the loss of or beloved relatives and friends, who died in a tragic accident, we also pray for quick recovery for the injured," he said.

"We give our heartfelt condolence messages to the bereaved families as well as the Zanzibar Revolutionary Government and those who have been affected by the tragedy," he said.

Meanwhile, TASWA Executive Committee is set to meet soon to discuss various development issues including, setting date for the forthcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM).

Mhando said that earlier the association secretariat proposed the meeting to be held at the opening early next month but later shelved the idea because the timing of the date would have coincided with the Holy Month of Ramadhan."The meeting will now take place at the end of next month at the venue to be announced later," Mhando said.
