Eritrea: Preparations Underway to Prevent Malaria Infection in Haikota Sub-Zone

Haikota — The Health Ministry's branch in Haikota sub-zone indicated that preparations are being made for the prevention of malaria infection in the locality.

Mr. Teklebirhan Teklezgi, head of environmental hygiene at the health center in Haikota, pointed out that integrated popular undertakings pertaining to the eradication of drenched areas, popularization of resort to impregnated mosquito bed net and spray of mosquito-targeting insecticide are playing vital role as regards the prevention of malaria infection. He also explained that insecticide has been sprayed in areas such as Hashenkit, Libanyay, Biltubyay and Alebu where more manifestations of anopheles mosquito are noted.

Mr. Mohammed Haj Adem and Mr. Mohammed-Kier Kerar, inhabitants of Libanyay Administrative area, voiced conviction that joint ventures on the part of the Ministry of Health and stakeholders have given rise to noticeable accomplishment in malaria control. They further indicated that the local inhabitants are actively participating in the undertaking of preventative measure.

Likewise, Mr. Saleh Idris and Mr. Mohammed-Ali Mohammed Idris said that the achievement made regarding malaria control was ensured through the integrated endeavors by the Health Ministry and the people, and that they would extend a helping hand in endeavors towards the realization of a malaria-free country.
