The Federal Government has announced the formation of a Hydro-Carbon Pollution Restoration Project (HYPREP) as part of commitment to implement the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Assessment Report on Ogoniland.
Speaking at a press conference in her office, Petroleum Resources Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke said the setting up of HYPREP by President Goodluck Jonathan was part of the Federal Government's determination to protect the environmental human rights of the people.
She announced that the project would be implemented in line with the recommendations of the UNEP report on Ogoniland.
Also present at the briefing were Environment Minister Hadiza Mailafia, the Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Engr. Andrew Yakubu and officials of the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency.
