East Africa: Barren Soils Threaten Farming Future in EA

Dar es Salaam — Most of the soils in the Great Lakes region of Eastern Africa are poor with very little fertility left in them, studies show.

A study by the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) availed to East African Business Week in Dar es Salaam last week said the remaining fertility is mostly due to the organic matter in the topsoil.
