The next government will be technocratic and efficiency will be the main criterion for selecting the cabinet, the newly-appointed Prime Minister Hisham Kandil said on Tuesday.

The basis of the government's work during the upcoming period will be realizing the goals of the revolution, achieving the aspirations of the Egyptian people and implementing the president's work programme, the Middle East News Agency (MENA) reported Kandil as saying at a press conference held at the presidency headquarters.

President Mohamed Mursi will hold a meeting with the appointed premier on Tuesday, Yasser Ali, the acting spokesperson of the presidency, told MENA.

PM Kandil will hold a press conference today as well following his meeting with Mursi, Ali added.

This commissioning "comes after studies and deliberations to choose a figure capable of running the current situation efficiently and effectively," the spokesperson said.
